Hello new friends!

I came across this cool little community just the other day while looking for some mixing advice, and I'm a new member! I'm not an engineer by anything but necessity, and I'm afraid I'm painfully new. That being said, I'm hoping to get better and I look forward to listening to everyone's work - from what I've heard so far, you are a talented lot. I listened to a good portion of mixes and I've downloaded one to try myself, which I'll upload eventually, when I've had a little more time with it (Dry Bones).

For now, though, I've got a project up for grabs if anyone is interested. I'm working with a folk rock band that's just recently tracked about 14 songs, working on a small budget, and looking for a mixing engineer. We've talked to some local engineers about taking on the project and had some interest, but when I found MixOff and listened to some of the work here I wanted to see if anyone was interested here too.

I've uploaded FLAC files for one of the songs to dropbox here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/gyvhn31j3ljtqwe/A%20Temporary%20Thing%20FLAC.zip

As well as a (very) quick mix here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ami2fd67jv34bgc/Mixdown.zip

This particular song is called "A Temporary Thing." It includes keys, acoustic guitar, mandolin, viola, bass, drums, lead and harmony vocals. The tempo is 70 bpm and the key is Bb Major. The reference mix should give a reasonable idea about how the elements fit together, but please feel free to take creative liberty. I'm no tech, and all of the tracking was done by me (it's my first time tracking AND mixing). Pretty much everything is close-miked, with decent isolation on the drums. If you are unfamiliar with the style of music, here are a few links to get you the idea using some similar instrumentation:

Although I read the stickypost that encouraged uploading just a chorus and verse, I went ahead and uploaded the whole thing - please feel free to only mix and upload what you feel comfortable sharing. I'm perfectly fine with making decisions based on smaller portions, but I want you to have access to the material as a whole in case it influences your mixing decisions.
While we don't need an overnight turnaround, the timeframe on the whole project is limited to about a month. Again, we don't have a large budget but if one of you wants to take on the project we can compensate you. We look forward to working with you and seeing what can come of this!

If I've forgotten anything obvious, or if you have any questions, please let me know!

Thanks!

Great song - has a nice laid-back feel to it.

I sent you a PM, but if you did not receive it feel free to email me.  I put together a mix of this to use as an example for you.
I became insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity. During these fits of absolute unconsciousness, I drank - God only knows how often or how much. As a matter of course, my enemies referred the insanity to the drink, rather than the drink to the insanity.

Hello MockingbyrdStation, welcome to the forum!

Nice song you have there... I'm a fan of these folk/country-like vocal harmonies....

May I ask what you did to the snare? There is like no bleed whatsoever going on!
Anyway, here is my try. I'm usually not listening to rough mixes beacause I try to give it my own spin which is hopefully into the right direction.... Will listen to your mix now  :D

I also PM'd/emailed you, but as others have said the site is acting funny... not sure if they went through.

One mix more.
I made a little different mix.
A lot more reverb than those references tracks or other mix posted here so maybe not what you have in mind.

Thank you for the tracks.
