Hey Alex,

I dig how you have the synths really padding the sides of the mix during the intro. It gives the track a dense, warm feel, while creating a lot of space for vocals in the verses. I also dig how you separated the verse aesthetic from the chorus aesthetic by controlling the verbs on the vocals.

Don't be afraid to carve away more mids - especially during the choruses. Tracks as dense as these live in the extremes, so consider expanding the bass further into the subs, and taking away any needless mids on the guitars. With that taken care of, you should have yourself quite an awesome mix!

Thanks a bunch for submitting.

Hey Chris,

Cool telephone effect at the start. Wonder what inspired that? :P.

I dig how you're getting some sub content into the kick and keeping the lower mids free for the bass. There are some cool parts Evan is playing and it's always a shame if they get lost. Nice FX on the vocals too. A touch overdone on the choruses perhaps?

I wouldn't mind hearing a bit more sizzle and bite on the rhythm guitars, and perhaps a little more clarity on the harmonic lead part during the choruses. It's critical to the vibe coming across! Consider maybe gluing the drums back into the mix. The attacks sound somewhat separate from the body of the track, and whereas this can work for metal music at times it tends to be a different story for rock.

Cheers for taking the time to take part. It's cool hearing the original compressor that handled this track in action again. Sounds very familiar!

Don't know what you're talking about ;) haha. I've been spamming that damn radio effect lately, sometimes some things just call for it! Added some tremelo to it as well, I'm happy now :P
Thanks for the feedback. In hindsight, I may have gone a little too METAL on the drums. I need to go listen to that AIC song for a little reference etc me thinks! :)

Hi there, first post here on MixOff.
My version of this awesome track:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/44862070/Memnoir-The%20One.mp3
I went for a darker guitar tone than I'd usually choose and kept the rhythms a bit more subdued in the mix in order not to push it too far into the realms of brootz.
Reamping chain is Maxon OD808 into a Mini Rectifier mic'ed up with a M201TG and an AT SDC.

Hey Tony,

I dig how you're giving the song some texture using effects on the leads.

If I might suggest, the start of the song sounds a bit empty. It would help to add some density and space to the section by verbing out the synths and perhaps thickening out the entire mix. I feel like I'm missing the bottom octave and overall density on the bass guitar, which is so vital to help build this song and help establish that groove on the verses.

Don't be afraid to go heavy-handed on overall mix compression in order to bring all the elements together and make the track pump. Any energy we can inject helps a ton.

Consider perhaps clearing the synths and guitars out of the high mids in order to create more breathing space for the vocals. Don't be afraid to go brutal on the drums with parallel compression in order to help beef things up either.

Cheers for the submission. Looking forward to hearing more!

Thanks for your words Ermin! Here´s a second one. Added some better tom samples and brought back in some low mids on bass. Snare got some Slate Z2 for more fullness. Also tweaked the overall compression and parallel comp. Can´t check on monitors atm, low-end could be a little to much...

Hi, guys!

Here's my submission.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/24873953/The%20One%20(Stickfigure%20mix).mp3

Thanks for the multitracks, Ermin. It's been fun mixing the song.
I bounced the instrumental tracks and compressed them as a whole before mixing in the vocals, and, in hindsight I feel the mix may have suffered from it.

Congratulations and thanks to the guys from Memnoir! Not sure if this a compliment, but I felt the song could have easily been on Dirt from Alice in Chains. I consciously avoided listening to the album as a reference for the mix because I didn't want to draw to much from it... maybe I should have... ;)
