How about a MasterOff? Where everyone is given the same 24/44.1 stereo file, and they master it to the best of their ability.

I think it would be fun, since I'm sure there are many people out there looking to get more mastering experience.

Of course, we would have to be careful when comparing to ignore loudness...but we should be used to that now, since everyone's mixes were always different levels, right?  :)

You could give it a shot! Feel free to use a mix from one of the mixoffs, or a track of your own. I'd try it in the 'other mixoffs' section, if it gets some interest, I'll create a 'mastering' board, for this type of project.

I know a lot of us do some 'mastering' on projects we mix, when the budget doesn't allow for a proper mastering job. I try to talk bands out of that, if at all possible, since mixing and mastering on the same set on monitors doesn't really do much good, but if it's all they can afford, I do some minor tweaks...

I call it "masturding", when I do it.  ;)

I like the idea...not the name.

I would call it "MixMas" or something...kind of like "Christmas"
