Collaborative Mixoffs / Re: Glorious Unknown Collab.
« on: October 08, 2018, 08:34:15 PM »
I feel like I'm doing a bit of archaeology over here, digging up this old post. In fact, this song has stuck in my mind for the last 7 and a half years (time flies).
A few days ago I decided I wanted to listen to it again and found out that, although I had the raw tracks, I couldn't find any mix in my computer, sooo... here we are!

Don't know if any of the original contributors are still hanging around this forum but, thanks, Guitar Zero, for all your songs, They are absolutely beautiful. My contribution won't ever do it justice...

From a collaborative mixoff project, posted by Guitar Zero, back in 2011.
Original song by Guitar Zero; original tracks (vocals, acoustic guitars, piano, synths) provided by Guitar Zero; bass by noeqplease; electric guitars and mixing by yours truly.

ok Vince, just remember that it was you who asked for it... ;)

Instead of doing away with a section, I added a new instrumental bridge (read guitar solo, please) at 2:08. It's 8 bars at 75 bpm. It feels as a huge break because I didn't record bass guitar, acoustic guitar or the pad but I'm leaving that for you to do. I added some drums, though... oh, and some piano and a hammond...

Well, I had fun!!! ;)

p.s. Nice drums!!! Hope you get them soon!!!
Oh, and your flac files had some noise in them... :S

sure! do that and i'll try to figure out some more guitar parts to the other sections.
btw, when you say keys, you mean something piano, hammond or mellotron, or do you have some synth stuff in mind?

I´ll wait for the bridge ;)

Thanks for the interest.

I like what you did...I think you could do even better if I posted chords.

Still need drums before doing any final takes/recordings.

Will post a drumless if any interest.

Song also needs a bridge.

Thanks again.

Hey, Vincent, nice song!!!

I can´t provide you with anything you asked :) but I really liked the song.
I recorded (very quickly)some rhythm guitars over the last chorus and would like to know if it's along the lines you had in mind for the song.
this is just the final chorus. my overdubs start at 00:13.

hope you like

 :) :) :) Congratulations!!!

Didn't have time do basically redo my mix (not that it would have mattered ;) ) but I would like to thank Ermin for his reviews (mine and all the others) and the band for letting us use the tracks!

And congratulations to sedit1! :)

Hi, guys!

Here's my submission.

Thanks for the multitracks, Ermin. It's been fun mixing the song.
I bounced the instrumental tracks and compressed them as a whole before mixing in the vocals, and, in hindsight I feel the mix may have suffered from it.

Congratulations and thanks to the guys from Memnoir! Not sure if this a compliment, but I felt the song could have easily been on Dirt from Alice in Chains. I consciously avoided listening to the album as a reference for the mix because I didn't want to draw to much from it... maybe I should have... ;)

Ah, man. Can´t compete with the guys that invited all their friends, family, relatives,  acquaintances etc to the group...

and with those who replaced their friends, family, relatives and acquaintances with samples...  ;D ;D ;D

But I agree with Morten... the real competition is for the "2nd prize", which I refuse to consider as 2nd. And even if there were no prizes, it would still be a nice way to get some exposure and to get feedback from the mixes.

But hey, I'm just the guy who made the singer sound like he has a lisp...  ;)
