No raw stems to work with  ???   A processed premixed .wav kind of defeats the purpose of the board.

& for personal taste, I like to lower or mute the vox while laying down a solid drum track, bass track etc.

I was going to upload raw stems later on when recording is done...I will gather everyones stems and post them all in one folder.

If I get the chance I will try and post a few stems I have at this point or perhaps post a guitar WAV file mix and a Vocal WAV mix without guitar for tracking purposes.

Im still in the process of editing the backup vocals...backups sang through the whole song with lead vox however It needs editing so thats why I have not posted stems yet.

"I can post chords or tab out the guitar parts if anyone wants them"

That would be nice.
Also, which key it's in...
And eventually, the multitrack, if possible.

Cheers

noeqplease I listened to your guitar track...I liked a few spots...I liked one riff you did and it gave me an idea for a few parts.

Im posting an mp3 of the riff I liked you did however its me playing the riff...just a quick rough recording...perhaps you or someone else can create something a bit better...I think that riff would sound good done with strings/midi stuff as well...a chello sound would probably sound good in this song.

I like the idea of having some filler riffs in the song instead of guitar over guitar through the whole song.

We can use your riff and add you as part of the writing credit...see if you can come up with some more riffs.

Here is the song in Tab form...I forgot to tab the ending...the ending is similar with one or two changed root notes...when I get a chance I will tab the ending of song.

Guitar is tuned a whole step down.

Hi Vincent,

Thanks for the compliment o the guitar riffs. I'll play around a bit more later today with that concept in mind.
I'll put some more licks in appropriate places, then you can do with them what you please.

Thanks ;D. Feel free to just use the track I posted (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22087900/Mixofforgcomp1.mp3). Or are you posting it with all unprocessed tracks?

By the way, what tracks do we still need before you zip it all up and the mixing begins?

Almost didn't post my drums after loon added his (Nice job by the way)
But after all this board is all about fun collaboration and giving a creative variety for the Mixers to see what they come up with.

Noeqplease, Nice track! when blended in it adds very nice padding & movement, and with a little automation to bring out special areas, it adds nice character.

Track info...   12 drum tracks 1 bass DI

Drums - Mapex Orion 18 piece kit, 1960's Ludwig Snare, Sabian crashes and Hats.
Bass  - Fender, DI

Files - 215MB Zipped

Acoustic Guitar and Backup Vocal Stems...please download lead vocal Stem below as well.

Lead Vocal Stem...forgot to add file to first folder.
http://www.4shared.com/file/kOi8kNZQ/Lead_Vocals.html

Acoustic recording quality isnt the best...the playing sounds decent however its home recording quality...bit of computer fan noise ect...do the best you can with the Acoustic tracks in regards to mixing...not expecting miracles with them... 8)

Give me a shout if you have any problems with the downloading of files.

Hi Vincent,

Sorry for the delay... me and one of my kids got sick on the weekend, that was fun...

Is there anything that I should look for / try out?
What kind of vibe are you trying to maintain?

I put in the electric guitar lick how and where you suggested.

http://nicksevilla.com/music/Telecaster-NOEQPLEASE-OPT2.wav

After listening to RealMusician's (Billy) drums and electric bass DI parts :

@RealMusician : nice drum part!
And thanks for the positive comment on my telecaster guitar part.
I did add a different electric bass, one that allows the acoustic guitar to play through better. My bass does not play completely through, allowing the acoustic to strum through.

http://nicksevilla.com/music/Ebass-NOEQPLEASE.wav

My electric bass goes silent during the "bridge", as there is a low tom from Billy there, which I kinda like, so I stayed completely out of his way.
I also stopped playing the Tele in that spot, to allow for a very different contrast to happen there.
Is this new electric bass more to everyone's liking? It's a Squier P-Bass through my console and then an LA2A. No EQ.
Let me know if that low tom will be a keeper, or if you want more electric bass there.

Cheers

Hi all,

Ok, here's a rough mix :

http://nicksevilla.com/music/LookingOut-NOEQPLEASEMIX.mp3

What I did :

1.- Only processing on the drums was a limiter on the kick, to give it more "uumphh", and a little mid EQ bite on the cymbals to get them to cut through better.
2.- Ac Gtrs got a PuigChild limiter, and a API 550b EQ, only limiting about 5 dB max on peaks, and setting the release to be close to the music tempo, but not exact. EQ was just some EQ to bring out the midrange a bit.
3.- New electric bass. DI through an Allen & Heath GL2800-32, then to an LA2A compressor. No EQ used. Then another PuigChild limiter, only used on the louder notes, otherwise not limiting.
4.- All BeeGees got bussed to a stereo compressor, the Kramer PIE, plus an API 550b EQ to get rid of some muddiness, and bring out the top end.
5.- E Gtr used also a PuigChild, again only limiting the larger louder peaks, set differently than the ac gtrs, with a slower release. I did not add EQ to this.
Lead Voice had another PIE compressor, pretty heavy, about 6-8 dB max compression, and fast release. I also EQ'd with an API 560b, to get some definition.
6.- I took out a few notes of the electric guitar on the Chorus, to clean that up.

Cheers

Hi Vincent,
Thanks for the good comment on the rough mix. I have not done a "proper" mix yet, in case there are any more parts anyone else is interested in adding.
I'll wait until the weekend, and if there is no more, I'll mix it properly. Let me know about the drums, how you'd like them to sound. I am imagining them back, not too "present", more felt than really clearly heard. This would keep the organic acoustic in the foreground with the vocal.

Cheers

Not sure what else this song needs...perhaps some keys...I even think sax would fit well in this song.

Im on the lookout for more auditions at this site and over at MCS as well.

http://www.musicianscollaboration.com/forum/

This song has been sitting around for a while so Im willing to wait for the right finishing touches to finish...hopfully its sooner than later.

I agree it still needs some work to finish it off.
The chorus needs some type of build, I was planning on adding some keys or backing guitar in those areas.
But I'm having trouble finding the time, I'm in the middle of a big move  :-\

Hi,

I got a few (3) licks for the bridge part.
I used my Strat which I just got back from my friend Tom Kelley who is a GENIUS when it comes to guitars, especially Stratocasters.
I had it painted by another good friend of mine, Autumn Rain Turkel, in oil.

The Mix :

The bridge strat guitar part:
http://nicksevilla.com/music/LO_Bridge_Strat_Licks-NOEQPLEASE.wav

I now have to play guitar for the next few weeks, during all my spare time... bye bye sleep!!!

Nice guitar Noeq.

Im drooling over the mixing gear in behind as well...I dont have any outboard gear at all.

Mix sounds pretty good considering the quality of the acoustic recording tracks...lots of background noise.

I need better recording mics...I think the acoustic was recorded with an Apex 435 about a year ago.

I have a few mics...couple sm57s and some Apex stuff however I need some better quality mics in the near future.

Hi Vincent,
Thanks for the compliments... I have been engineering for a while now, thus the nice collection of gear.
The mixes I have put up here mostly are ITB, except when using anything labeled LA2A, or 1176... those are the real ones I have.
As far as mics... when you're ready to consider buying some, let me know, so I can offer some tips.
Cheers
