Title: Across The Great Divide
Post by: Vincent on December 22, 2011, 07:08:55 PM

New song bed...90 bpm

EDIT:...new audio player on site doesnt seem to be working...you may have to save file to computer to listen.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/52522401/Across%20The%20Great%20Divide%20%20Dec%206%2090%20bpm%20.wav

Here are the guitar tracks (pitch corrected)...I also added a basic tab for the main guitars only.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/52522401/ATGD-Guitar%20Stems.zip

Use,lose, edit or move whatever tracks you want.

-------------------------

I forgot to remove fades on guitar tracks...I would actually like to create and ending for song so im open to ideas on how to do that...I can always re record guitars.

Nice tune!  Is adding bass, changing drums ok?

Hey lonely!  Feel free to add drums, but I have them covered unless you really want to.  Didn't post here cause I'm still working on the edit.  Recorded them a while ago and didn't have much time to edit them together.

Here's what I have so far though.

Loon has drums covered however everything thing else is open for auditions/additions.

Also wanted to mention

Guitar auditions are open as well...my guitar and amps are on the cheapy side (struggle with tunage) so if we could get a 12 string gibby electric or acoustic playing that main rhythm this song could sound much better with loons drums.

OK, I laid down a bass track, just off of the guitars, here is a link:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3203339/ATGD-Bass%20tracks.zip

Of course, I now listened to the mix with the drums you posted and it doesn't work, but I thought I'd share it anyway in case there are pieces you may want to keep.

Can you upload the drums, or perhaps the midi file for the drums (assuming those are triggered), and I'll make another pass?

Perhaps loon can post an updated wav file with drums once hes done editing.

------------------

Listening to Bass tracks now.

DI track is empty (nothing on it)

I like some of what you did listening to bass amp track though.

See what Loon thinks..hes mixing.

Most of the song/vereses are in the key of D then goes to A...then its like an F sharp/D thingy and F/D.

Alright.  I finished the edit.  One of my messiest but it sounds fine in the song I think.  Do the drums sound triggered, lonely?

Here's how I fit your bass to the song.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22087900/divid.mp3

And here's a stereo mix of the drums.  I'll post the stems when the time comes, but this should do for now.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22087900/divid%20drums.wav

Here's a file containing both.  (don't know why I uploaded this. it's only slightly smaller).

Did you guys want me to change/finish the vocal, or is it rubbish?  It's cool either way.

Great bass playing by the way.

The verse vocals are good Loon.

--------------------

Industry insider vocal recording tip (I just learned)

remove pop filter
Get close to mic but dont sing directly into mic...sing below it.

Then try and double your original vocal with another one and try and match as best you can.

Its similar to doubling a guitar track...getting close to mic creates a more intimate vocal recording.

I fixed the DI track, something must have interrupted the zipping process.  Here's the link again:

Vincent -
Hrmm... not sure what you're hearing but if it sounds like ass it's just my voice ;).

I record only a foot away from the mic, triple take, and no pop filter.  As I said, I don't mind not doing the vocal if you don't dig it.

No triggers/samples.  Straight acoustic drum rec. :)

@Loon: kudos to you then!  I guess I'm not used to such consistency (particularly on the snare)!

@Loon & Vincent:
re: bass track:

- were you able to get the DI track now?
- any changes needed/requested?

I still dont hear anything on DI track from new download link...Might want to try again.

--------------------------

Only siggestions I have for new bass is that you could play a bass riff or riffs in the key of D for beginning and verses because there isnt really a chord change per say...just noodling around with the D chord.

Between new bass and old bass track loon can edit a final track and pick what he likes best for the mix.

Sounding good so far.

Thanks Lonley

---------------

I like loons mix however everyone is welcome to try a mix (duh its a mixing site) and edit at their will.

--------------

noeqplease

Add whatever instruments you want...this song needs anything and everything.

-----------

I like the verse vocals so far...the other part needs catchier melody I think

Anyone who has a good melody for vocals but doesnt really sing could post an instrument version of the melody...Could help singer with melody ideas.

Thanks

We need vocals yet.

Im still working on this...dont have drum stems so I used a simple fake drum beat for now.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8412827/My%20Women.mp3

Im renaming song "My Women"...this is getting copywrited and submitted into my TV and Film catalogue...might be incentive for a decent singer to sing this if there are any kicking around...I hear lead vocals in the style of Robert Plant or John Lennon...I may try vocals myself first as a guide.

I need bass again because song is in a new direction now I think...Im looking for zeppelin style bass...I may do that myself as well unless someone blows my mind with their bass track...when I say blow my mind I mean its better than what I could do.

Need keyboards...Zeppelin,Beatles,Lennon style or whatever sounds good.

Lyrics

(backround vox in verses...My_________Wo________men________

Wheres my women
Where can she be
My little women
That Im glad to see

Im just sitting here
The day is done
Reading the daily news
Our Time Has come

But Wheres my women
Where can she be
My lovely women
who thinks of me.

Im just sitting here
The day is done
Reading the daily news
Our Time Has come

To an end

to an end

solo break

Wheres my women
Where can she be
My lonley women
glad to see me

She just sitting there
Her day is done
Brushing her beautifull hair
Our time has come

To an end

To an end

Im just sitting here
The day is done
Finished the daily news
Now Its time to run

Run to my women
who loves me
My darling women
Till eternity

My women
My women

Did a bit of vocal melody at beginning...Bit nasally in one part.

Its starting to shape into a song a bit now...just need a better singer perhaps and some lead filler by keys and guitar...also need bass and better drums.
